Purpose:

The goal of this research is to allow researchers to enhance our understanding of Sickle Cell Disease, in support of developing new diagnostic and treatment options for patients living with the condition.

Do I Qualify?
You may qualify if you:
  • Are 18 years of age or older
  • Have been diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease
  • Report HbSS genotype, also known as Sickle Cell Anemia
  • Live within 2 hours of San Francisco, CA
You may not qualify if you:
  • Are pregnant
  • Have a known history of HIV, hepatitis or other infectious diseases
  • Experienced excess blood loss including blood donation defined as 250 mL in the last month or 500 mL in the last two months

As compensation for your time, we will provide you with up to a $100 prepaid gift card for each home visit you participate in. You will receive the gift card after the at-home appointment is completed.

All private health information (PHI) provided to Sanguine is kept confidential and coded, so no one can identify you or connect you with your medical information. No samples we share with researchers contain any information that can directly identify you. We implement policies and procedures to protect your PHI in compliance with the law. Do I need to have health insurance?
No. You do not need to have health insurance in order to qualify for the study. However, to participate in most studies, you will need to provide proof of your diagnosis. Even if you are not currently seeing a physician, you can still sign an authorization for Medical Record Release from your former physician that can serve as proof of diagnosis.
